The Meaford Senior Men's Golf League began its 2008 season on Tuesday, May 6. The weather was seasonally cool and so were the scores.

Sometimes the games that the seniors play each week create surprises.

Dave Allin was called up to accept first prize money after, under the World Golf Federation Daily Equalizer ranking, his personally disappointing gross score of 103 was magically translated into a low net of 73, the lowest of the field of 38 golfers.

Les Wainwright, whose 92 was the lowest gross score, came second with a net score of 74. Jim Neale and Tony Page each shot gross 93, but finished out of the prizes.

Eight golfers shot net 75 scores, but the club only had enough loonies for the first seven places. The computer determined this order for third to tenth place: Floyd McDermid, Peter Flippance, Leo Girard, Glenn Donely, Peter Zahradnik, John Lounds, Doug White, and Gord McIntyre.

The bottom three were to finish out of the loonies, but John Lounds snuck into the money after Glenn Donely was a no-show when prizes were awarded.

Prizes were awarded for closet to the pin on three of the par threes on the Meaford course: Millennium #2, Millennium #9, and Randle #9. Accurate shooters were David Allin, Terry Running, and Les Wainwright respectively.

This early in the season, the Senior Men's Club is still welcoming new members who would like to participate in weekly competition on Tuesday mornings as well as four dates at other clubs in the area.

If you would like to join call President Jim Neale at 519-538-2473.
