Local artist Jennifer Potter is set to release her new album, Celtic Dreams, at the Foodgrains Spring Gospel Concert on May 23rd.
For the past four months, Potter has been working in her studio arranging and writing songs for the new album. The sessions resulted in Celtic Dreams, an inspirational soundscape consisting of 11 songs, four of which are her own compositions. The rest of the album is comprised of original arrangements of traditional Celtic lullabies, but Potter insists will not put listeners to sleep.
"It's not a lullaby album, it's more for unwinding," she said. "One song leads to another to create a relaxing soundscape."
After performing in the area for nearly six years, Potter has created connections with many local groups and musicians, some of whom play on Celtic Dreams. Soprano Joshua McArthur and flautist Karen James make appearances playing on select tracks.
As any other artist, Potter is anxiously awaiting her album's release this week to see the public's response and so far, she has been pleased with early feedback.
"Whenever you're doing something, you're never sure if people are going to like it," said Potter.
"Having Diane Foulds from Rogers TV Daytime say that Celtic Dreams 'hugged me' told me I was on the right track."
Potter will be performing songs from Celtic Dreams this Friday at the Bighead River Foodgrains Spring Gospel Concert at Knox Presbyterian Church.
