Grey Roots Museum opened its Lego: Secrets of the Pharaohs special display last Saturday morning.

The one of a kind exhibit is on display at Grey Roots from now until Labour Day weekend.

The exhibit combines the fun of the famous Lego building blocks that everybody played with at some point as a child and the colourful and amazing history of ancient Egypt.

On Saturday Canada's only Certified Master Lego Builder (name here) was working away on an eight foot high Lego Sphinx that will be displayed in the Grey Roots lobby.

Imagine a pyramid, a life-sized sarcophagus, and a re-creation of Tutankhamen's mask - all made entirely from hundreds of thousands of Lego bricks! That is the essence of the new display.
Grey Roots visitors can explore the ancient history of Egypt. The exhibit is interactive and includes an area where visitors can build their own Lego Egypt monuments!

"There's a huge amount of effort going into this exhibit," said Grey Roots Community Relationship Coordinator Lara Javalyn.

A company from British Columbia created the Lego Egypt display. It's a traveling exhibit that usually stays in the western part of the country.

"It's one of the few eastern visits it will make. Isn't that cool?" said Javalyn.

In conjunction with the Lego display, Grey Roots has also debuted its original Walk Like an Egyptian display. Visitors will have a chance to learn about daily life in Egypt on the banks of the mighty Nile River. There will be opportunities to learn how to write using ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs. There will also be lessons about the mysterious Egyptian rituals surrounding death and the afterlife.

The exhibit will include music and games. It will be the perfect complement to the Lego exhibit going on at the same time.

"It's really quite cool how they've done that original exhibit. It's a great addition to the Lego exhibit," said Javalyn.

Grey Roots is open seven days a week. Summer hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Grey Roots is located on Grey Road 18, 2 km west of the Rockford intersection on Highway 6/10.
