One hundred years ago the cornerstone was laid to begin the first reconstruction of Meaford Hall.

Meaford United Church is also celebrating its centenary year, so the summer of 2008 is tagged as "celebrating 100 years of history" in our community to honour the important role these institutions play in developing a strong and vibrant community.  A key part of this celebration is a very special event, Quilts in My Garden, to be held in Meaford on Saturday, July 19.

This event will showcase seven beautiful local gardens, all with a different theme, with each garden displaying handmade quilts in keeping with the theme.  Tickets are $20 for the tour including lunch at the Terrace Room, Meaford Hall, and are available for sale at:  Meaford Hall box office, Stuff to Read and The Fabric Shoppe in Meaford or by calling 519 538-6766.

The locations for the self-guided tour are shown on the back of the tickets and will be identified with balloons and signs.  These include:
1. Ted and Joan Brown's Riverside Farm, 13th sideroad
2. Ann and John Addison's lovely country home with goldfish pond on the east side of 7th line north of Hwy. 26 ,
3. Dell Simpkins country living in an urban setting, 368 Thompson Street near the police station;
4. Isola's view of the water on Scotia Drive;
5. Marj & Don Davison's beautiful rose garden and gazebo on Montgomery Street
6. Lynn and Kevin MacInnis's home featuring a children's theme on the corner of Boucher and Denmark;
7. Janet Kurascz's lovely country garden on the Nighthawk Valley Road (7th Sideroad) fire number 86141.

Tickets are sold by lunch sitting so that everyone will also have a chance to view an antique quilt display and take a look at the merchant's mall set up in the Hall's galleries.  The tour can be picked up at any of the listed locations, tickets will be punched, and for guests arriving at a garden location the day of, tickets for the tour will be available for $14 and will not include lunch.

For further information, please call the Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation office at 519 538-6766.

All proceeds from this event go to support arts and culture programming in Meaford Hall.
