Grey County OPP are looking for any information that might assist in apprehending the person or persons responsible for a smash and grab at the LCBO store in Meaford in the early morning hours of July 11.
Just after 12:30 a.m. an officer responded to an intrusion alarm at the store situated at 32 Nelson Street in Meaford.
The officer arrived within one minute of the alarm being activated and several other units arrived shortly thereafter to secure the building exits.
The premises were then searched for suspects, but none were located. There was evidence of inventory being disturbed and there was evidence of broken bottles in the store and on the parking lot. A scenes-of-crime officer (SOCO) attended to examine the scene for evidence and determined that entry had been gained by smashing the front door.
"Our response and containment was instantaneous to the alarm being tripped in this case," said OPP Media Relation Officer Steve Starr. "Obviously the person or persons responsible smashed the door, grabbed what they could and ran, as evidenced by the bottles they dropped during their hasty get away. I'm sure someone in Meaford knows who did this, and if they don't want to come forward to us, Crime Stoppers will take their information anonymously, pass it on to our investigators, and pay a cash reward if we are able to solve it," said Starr.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information which might assist is asked to contact Grey County O.P.P. or Crime Stoppers. Constable Dale Beckner is the investigating officer.
