Nobody coming to Meaford will ever ask: "where's Meaford Hall" again.
Two new signs were installed last week on the Hall's two balconies. The signs simply say: "Meaford Hall." For local people there has never been a need to clearly denote Meaford Hall, but for tourists visiting town - every sign helps.
As if on cue to illustrate the need, as the signs were being put up by municipal staff, a group of tourists approached Meaford Hall House Manager Susan Lake as she watched the installation of the signs and asked if Meaford Hall was in fact the building where the Tom Thompson artwork is being displayed.
The creation of the new signs was the work of Ivan Franklin and Ron Mills. Meaford Hall staff were approached by Franklin and Mills about the lack of signage on the building. With the Hall's Centenary Weekend rapidly approaching Mills and Franklin went to work on the signs.
Franklin cut the wood and painted the base and Ron did the lettering. Brian Mather from the municipality hung the signs on Wednesday morning.
"This was a 100-per-cent volunteer effort by these two men and Meaford Hall is very grateful for their interest and expertise," said Lake after the signs were put up.
