Ruby the Acrobat does her thing at the Pet Idol contest (She's the one with the feathers).

While everyone is talking about Canadian Idol and cheering on Drew Wright in Collingwood, the best Canadian Pet Idols were strutting their talents in Meaford at Beautiful Joe's Canadian Pet Idol Contest.

Craig Norris from cbcradio3.com hosted the event with Ross Kentner from Bayshore Broadcasting who was one of our celebrity judges with Gunter Neumann, a talented local artisan and Jamie Johnston from The Mix 106.

While dogs ruled the scene, Ruby, the African Grey Red Tailed Parrot captivated the audience with her acrobatic feats and she was judged the 1st place winner in the Acrobat category.

Jackie stole the show when he stood up and presented his song, Silent Night!  He may have been silent through it all, but the audience was filled with laughter and he was judged first-place winner in the Singer category.

Cooper came in first as the best dressed wearing a bomber jacket and Tibby was declared the best dancer.  Everyone won a prize, $50 for first place, $20 for second and $10 for third with consolation prizes for fourth place, all sponsored by Ray Sugars of Invisible Fence.

With the tremendous support and sponsorship of CBC radio two lucky contestants won a six-month subscription to Sirius radio from the CBC team in their Let Freedom Spin portion of the show.

The Beautiful Joe Heritage Society gratefully acknowledges the support of these generous sponsors.  You can download the wonderful podcast of the event from Craig Norris' R3-30 program at cbcradio3.com which certainly highlighted that wonderful things are happening in Meaford.

Due to the enthusiastic response of the participants and the audience the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society will host Beautiful Joe's Canadian Pet Idol contest in 2009 on Canada Day so start rehearsing now and your pet could be a Pet Idol next year.  Thank you to the hosts, judges, participants, visitors and volunteers who supported this event and made the sun shine on such a dreary wet day!

Beautiful Joe's second-annual Autumn Adventure in Beautiful Joe Park on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., rain or shine with an Amazing Animal Party, Obedience Demos, Free Pony Rides, Plaque Ceremony, Blessing of the Animals and more!  Admission by donation.
