On Tuesday, June 23 forty-eight members of the Meaford Senior Men's Golf League participated in a "Best Two Balls Net" tournament. Only the two best net scores on each hole from the four-team members counted towards the team's score. An additional wrinkle on the day had men with handicaps of 26 and above teeing off alternately from the red and white tees instead of their usual gold tees; men with handicaps of 25 and lower alternated from the gold and blue tees instead of their usual white tees.
In first place, the team of Dave Burness, Graham Shaw, Ralph Rice, and Des Dalrymple matched the heat of the day to post a sizzling net 110. Jack Peckitt, Don MacKay, Rollie Horn, and Hugh Cairney carded a very good net 115 for second place. Third place was awarded to the four-man team of Tony Page, John Borden, Brian McColgan, and Fred Yacula at net 121. Notable individual scores included Leo Girard's gross of 88 and Lou Sage's net of 64.
Glenn Donley struck the most accurate drive on Randle #3. Larry Laycock won the prize for closest to the pin on Randle #9. Millennium #9 presents a significant differences depending on tees used. For that reason two awards for accuracy will now be presented for Millennium 9. This week Larry Laycock, surely the most accurate golfer of the day, was closest to the pin from the longer tee while Hugh Cairney knocked it close from the short tee.
