The Municipality of Meaford has made a $4,500 donation to the Grey County tornado relief fund.

Mayor Francis Richardson made the announcement at council's planning meeting held on November 16. At that meeting Mayor Ellen Anderson appeared as a delegation before council regarding another matter.

After the presentation Mayor Richardson presented Mayor Anderson with the $4,500 cheque. A tornado struck Durham, Markdale and Craigleith late last August causing extensive damage in all three areas and one death in Durham.

The provincial government created a single tornado relief fundraising committee for the county. Mayor Richardson said the $4,500 donation represents $1,500 for each of the affected communities.

Mayor Anderson thanked Meaford council for its contribution and said the affected communities are grateful for the support from their Grey County neighbours.
