Arrogant PM puts democracy in peril

An open letter to MP Larry Miller.

Dear Mr. Miller:

Having seen in the local press your explanation of the need for prorogation, I feel compelled to react in the most forceful of terms. The only reason that the Prime Minister prorogued parliament was to avoid any further criticism or embarrassment over the handover of Afghan detainees by the Canadian Army.

The reason his office has given for the prorogation of parliament (to better proceed with the next step of his government's fiscal plan) is totally unconvincing. Given the general reaction of the populace, as reported in the national press and on the various Internet social groups, it is clear that a majority of Canadians do not accept his lame-brained excuses for his most recent arrogant move.  Furthermore, declining to give the so-called reasons himself for the prorogation and thinking we are stupid enough to believe what an unelected PMO official said was the rationale, is a grave insult to our intelligence and  to our country.

In my view Mr. Harper is a very dangerous man and, in my 50+ years of living and voting in Canada, I have never felt so strongly that, as a nation,  we are  being  so poorly served and that our democracy has never been in such peril  from  an elected Prime Minister.

Sincerely,

Eric F. James
