Bluewater District School Board announced last week that the ministry approved sites included schools in Tara, Owen Sound, Markdale, Southampton, Kincardine, Lucknow, Mildmay and Desboro.
Meaford Community School principal Kara Bowles, said she's looking forward to having all day learning for kindergarten classes.
"I think it's going to be a fabulous program," said Bowles. "Having an Early Childhood Educator with each teacher - that's key."
She said the negative side of the program is the effect it will have on local daycares. Bobbi's preschool, specifically, runs a before and after school program.
"I don't want to lose that, it's a definite need in our area," said Bowles. "I can't speak highly enough of Bobbi's. It's a negative in the beginning, but in the long run it's good for the kids."
Beaver Valley Community School principal, Keith Lefebvre, said his school was left out of this year's plan because of the close proximity to Beaver Valley Preschool.
"Obviously there are a lot of repercussions with respect to daycare and daycare providers," said Lefebvre. "There's a conflict in taking children out of one program and putting them in another... that doesn't make for a good working relationship."
He said the ministry is allowing some time for schools to transition into an all day learning program.
"It would be nice to have a program like that," said Lefebvre. "We will welcome it when we do have it."
