The Golden Town Outreach Foodbank celebrated its move to a new location at the Church of the Nazarene on Trowbridge Street with a special luncheon on Saturday afternoon.
Board members and volunteer supporters of the gathered at the Foodbank's new location for a special luncheon that saw long-time Outreach volunteers Shirley Lockhart and Paul Parkin honoured for their dedication to the organization.
The occasion allowed the Outreach a chance to show off its brand new home. The Foodbank had to leave the Meaford Legion after that building was closed due to a furnace malfunction.
The Church of the Nazarene stepped up and offered the Foodbank the use of its basement. The Foodbank's new home is a great perfect location. It is in the heart of the downtown area, it offers plenty of storage space, use of a kitchen and meeting space.
"It's working out really well. The church has been wonderful. They've been very supportive," said Board Secretary Sandra Umbrio.
Board Chair Mary Bryant said the Outreach is thrilled with the support it receives from the community.
"We're so delighted to be able to show off our new space and show our appreciation we have for all of you that help," Bryant told the assembled volunteers. "You have all shown how caring you can be with your support and help with running the Foodbank, with the move to the new location and help with our Christmas programs. We're very fortunate to have such help from you all," she said.
The Outreach honoured volunteers Paul Parkin and Shirley Lockhart for all their work over the years in support of the Foodbank. Both were presented with recognition plaques and nice flower arrangements.
Pastor Joyce Straiton welcomed the Outreach to the Church of the Nazarene.
"It's been a dream of mine for our church to reach out to the community in some way. This is a perfect fit! I am thrilled that you guys are here," she said.
