The Meaford Novice team played a busy schedule this week.
At home on Oct. 30, they played an intense game against rival Grand Valley. Goaltender, Jack Armstrong, made many spectacular saves allowing no goals in the first or second period.
Scoring for Meaford were Derrick Cornfield, Tristen Park, Griffin Boyd, and Andrew Vardy. Ben Page earned two assists and Damien Sutton also assisted on a goal. The final score was a close 4-3 for Meaford.
On Nov. 1, the Novices travelled to Flesherton where their six game winning streak came to an end. Damien Sutton scored in the first period with only seconds left on the clock. Nick Smith and Victoria Carroll assisted.
In the second period, Tyler Hawken let go a terrific wrist shot firing the puck over the goaltender and into the net. With great defensive efforts from Jesse Carnahan and J.P. Giroux, the score remained tied at the end of the second.
Griffin Boyd scored the first goal in the third period assisted by Damien Sutton. Flesherton was determined to win and pressed hard in the third to score four goals, and the Meaford Novices experienced their first loss of the season.
The Novices rebounded the following evening on home ice against Owen Sound. This game was a team effort with every player on the team making the score sheet.
Congratulations to Spencer Stevenson who caught the goal scoring bug and scored two goals Friday night and Jack Armstrong for recording his first shut out of the season. First year hockey player Ted Brownlow has been a big help to this team and improves with every game.
The final score was 11-0, and the Novices are a proud 7-1-0 so far this season.
