Crime Stopper programs and police services stretching across Central and Midwestern Ontario are asking for the public's' assistance in solving the epidemic of break-ins that continue to occur at local churches, libraries, community halls and other public buildings.

The rash of break-ins began on December 11 in Waterloo Region and since then the culprits(s) have cut a swath across an area stretching from Elmvale to Kincardine and have included small communities in the counties of Grey, Bruce, Wellington, Huron, as well as Nottawasaga and West Huronia.

Police have investigated 65 break-ins with the majority (44) occurring at churches. Most of these crimes have occurred during the week and in almost all cases cash appears to be the main target however computer equipment has also been stolen.

Crime Stoppers is asking citizens to be the eyes and ears for the police. If you suspect late night activity in relation to churches, halls and other public buildings then contact police immediately.

If you have any information about these crimes or who is responsible, then call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). You won't be asked to identify yourself, you won't have to appear in court and you will be eligible for a substantial cash reward up to $2,000.

Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display.
