Tall snowbanks along local roads pose a serious visibility hazard for drivers and pedestrians, and The Blue Mountains OPP are advising everyone to be extra cautious.
Motorists are advised to slow down and watch for pedestrians, especially children, who aren't visible behind the snow banks that are currently chest high to most adults.
Meanwhile, the OPP are asking parents to keep their children from playing on roadside snowbanks.
A child can fall into the path of oncoming traffic or cause large blocks of snow to fall into a vehicle's path, possibly causing a collision.
As well, drivers attempting to enter roads from their driveways can have difficulty seeing approaching traffic.
Snowmobilers are also warned to be wary as they can be hidden from view.
Combined with the lack of visibility is the fact that many roads are still covered in a layer of snow or slush so vehicles can't stop or swerve as quickly as on dry pavement.
Finally, the OPP are reminding drivers to take the time to clear their windows and windshields and check that their windshield wipers are free of ice before they set out on their drive.
