A man arrested for impaired driving wound up spending the night in jail and faces mischief charges, after he punched out the window of an OPP cruiser after getting a ride home from the cops.
Grey County OPP officers responded Satrday night after receiving information about a possible impaired driver who had left an area restaurant after being refused service.
A short time later, the suspect vehicle, a Freightliner semi-tractor, was stopped on the 11th Line in Meaford at about 11:30 p.m.. The driver of the truck was arrested and transported to the Meaford detachment, where he refused to submit to a breathalyser demand.
He was charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample. He was released from custody and driven to his residence in the Municipality of Grey Highlands by the OPP just after 3 a.m.
That's when police say he exited the cruiser and was starting toward his house when he suddenly turned and struck the windshield a number of times with his fist, causing it to shatter. He was placed under arrest at that point for mischief and was returned to the detachment where he remained in custody until his release several hours later.
The 40-year-old Grey Highlands man is scheduled to make a first appearance in Owen Sound court on April 10.
