Socialist softy wants to get together with right-wing reactionary for a beer

I look forward to Chris Fell's columns.

His reactionary, right-wing views provide an amusing if somewhat irrational counterpoint to this old lefty's  nanny-state liberalism and soft socialist sentiments!

Last week's column  about Earth Hour (the environmental project encouraging people to turn off their lights for an hour on March 29) was a beaut.  Chris proclaims this effort to be "essentially a gigantic guilt trip", and that he "really resents ...the guilt factor."

Well, he certainly must, because he goes on to say that all of us are "supposed to feel guilty for abusing the environment"; that he " just won't feel guilty that day"; that he "won't feel guilty any other day"; and (in case we've missed the point ) that he "has no reason to feel guilty."

OK. We get it. Don't let the David Suzuki, Al Gore-loving, tree-hugging, bicycle-riding, NDP-voting, granola-eating, Birkenstock-wearing, polar bear-loving, crazies guilt you out. Good advice, I say. Too much guilt can make one feel, well guilty!

Guilt firmly under control Chris goes on to write that the importance politicians are giving this Earth Day nonsense " really kills me." Moreover, Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley's comment about individual responsibility "really makes my blood boil."

Guilt. Dying. Boiling blood. Chris, I'm worried about you. I know it's hard being a right-winger but you need to chill. It's only about, like, the environment for heaven's sake!

By the way, I appreciate the invitation in your column to spend Earth Hour at your place where you have promised to remain firmly plugged into the grid, TV blasting, stereo cranked, hydro meter whirling. Such gritty resolve should be supported!

Is it OK if I bring a few beers in my old Coleman cooler to save a few watts?
