The folks who are blasting Chris Fell for his Earth Day "anti-column" in the March 19, 2008 issue really need to lighten up.

Chris is merely pointing out that environmental "token gestures" are meaningless.

That darling of the left wing, Rick Mercer, did a great satirical send-up of the Earth Day silliness on his final episode of the year March 25, (repeated on March 28) on CBC.

It was a biting and accurate portrayal of the disingenuous efforts made by the overwhelming majority of our citizens, when it comes to environmental responsibility.

This is the same Rick Mercer who was spokesman for the "One Tonne Challenge"just a few short years ago.

The whole issue is, that "we" have lifestyles which actually REQUIRE, and DEPEND upon, a ruthless and continuing waste of energy.

Those who pretend otherwise are naive indeed, and a non-hypocritical assessment of the situation is what they need to read over a few times.

If that doesn't work, and further to my advice to "lighten up", there are excellent products at Muxlow's which can facilitate this procedure.
