New Books
New fiction books to the library this week include All She Ever Wanted by Lynn Austin, Buckingham Palace Gardens by Anne Perry, Compulsion by Jonathan Kellerman, Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson, Hidden Places by Lynn Austin, How the Dead Dream by Lydia Millet, No Humans Involved by Kelley Armstrong, Our Story Begins by Tobias Wolfe, Simply Perfect by Mary Balogh, This Night’s Foul Work by Fred Vargas, Wings of Refuge by Lynn Austin and A Woman’s Place, also by Lynn Austin. 

New non-fiction books include Agent zigzag: A true story of Nazi Espionage, love and betrayal by Ben MacIntyre, How Jesus Became Christian by Barrie Wilson, The Oil and the Glory: The pursuit of empire and fortune on the Caspian Sea by Steve LeVine and The Secret Lives of Saints: Child brides and lost boys in Canada’s polygamous Mormon sect by Daphne Bramham.

Art Gallery
Words, Wood and Whimsy by John Capon, Pat Gagnon and Taylor Ledden will be in the Gallery  until April 30.  Featuring wood turning, beadwork and theatrical masks, this mixed-media group show is full of earthly inspirations. 

Upcoming Events
A Hanging Basket Workshop has been arranged for Thursday May 8 beginning at 7 p.m.  You will have the opportunity to create your own hanging basket under the guidance of an expert. There are two styles to choose from: A Hummingbird Basket for shade or a Butterfly Basket for sun.

The cost is $25 and includes all materials, an assortment of plants and the basket. Prepayment and registration at the library is required to indicate your choice of style of basket that you wish to create.

Grey Grannies are back with their popular Granny Birds for sale just in time for Mother's Day.

These birds are hand-crafted with love by our local Grey Grannies in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. A minimum donation of $ 10 is required per bird.

Children’s Programs
Children’s Story Time

Children aged 2 – 6 are invited to join us for stories, songs and a simple craft every Wednesday 10:15-11:00 a.m.  The program will run until May 7. Registration is not necessary.  For more information, please telephone the library at 519-599-3681.

Craft Club
Interested in crafts?  Join the library’s Craft Club!  This is a free series of events being held on Saturdays from 2 – 2:30 p.m. for children ages 8 and under.  Come out and see what we’re up to! 

We are celebrating Earth Day at our first meeting.  Make your own Inukshuk paperweight on Saturday April 19 from 2 – 2:30 p.m. 

100 Years of Anne
L. E. Shore Memorial Library and Jessica’s Book Nook present a centennial celebration of the much loved classic, Anne of Green Gables. Join us at the library for an afternoon of fun activities, featuring an appearance by Lucy Maud Montgomery’s granddaughter, Kate Macdonald Butler, games, refreshments, crafts and prizes for the best dressed Anne.

All activities are suitable for the young and young at heart. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.  Please pre-register at Jessica’s Book Nook, 519-599-7361 or at the library, 519-599-3681. See you there!

Write @ Your Library
Take part in this Creative Writing Contest for teens. Cash prizes of up to $100 will be awarded for the winning entries in both Junior (Gr. 7 – 9) and Senior (Gr. 10 – 12) categories. More information and contest guidelines are available at the library. Deadline for submissions is May 2.   

Forest of Reading 2008
Are you between 7-14 years? Do you want to have a say in what your peers are reading?
If you wish to participate in the Forest of Reading you can sign up at the library during regular hours. Voting day is April 23, so let's start reading!

During the reading program, Forest titles will be kept at the reference desk and will have a loan period of one week. Titles cannot be renewed. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the program.
