Local MPP Bill Murdoch says he is content with the recommendation he received from Queen's Park concerning his repeated calls for an investigation into Elections Ontario.
Three months after requesting an investigation over voter card irregularities in the last election, Murdoch was advised by the Speaker of the Assembly to await the Chief Electoral Officer's annual report.
In his letter to Murdoch, Speaker Steve Peters wrote: "At the present time, in deference to the mandate and role of the Chief Electoral Officer, I believe it would be appropriate if the Assembly awaited his report on the preparation and delivery of the 39th provincial general election. It is possible that Mr. Hollins will address recommendations for changes and improvements to our electoral system."
"While it is beyond the unilateral jurisdiction of the Speaker to establish an all-Party committee to review the conduct of the election, you certainly have my commitment that as Speaker I will put all the services and authority of my office at the disposal of any legislative body that is eventually composed to review Ontario's electoral laws, and the performance and capacities of Elections Ontario."
Murdoch said he is comfortable with the advice he received and looks forward to reading the Chief Electoral Officer's annual report, which is expected in mid April.
"As per the speaker's letter, we will wait for the report and take it from there," said Murdoch.
