Grey Roots Museum & Archives has launched For Home and Country: The Women's Institutes of Grey County,  an online collection of Tweedsmuir History books compiled by local Women's Institute branches.

Containing a wealth of information on the villages, churches, farms and people of Grey County, these invaluable volumes will be available to anyone with an Internet connection by going to the Virtual Exhibits section.

The Tweedsmuir Histories are compiled in a scrapbook style and contain many interesting photographs, property histories, village histories, newspaper articles, biographies and other items of interest chronicling the history and development of Grey County and the people who live here.

The project, which began in September 2007, involved the scanning of 32 volumes, containing over 5,000 pages of information.  The wealth of information contained in these volumes is fully searchable; as such, they will be of interest to genealogists, researchers and anyone with an interest in local history.

Teachers and students are invited to learn about local history with an educational section designed to aid teachers in directing their students to curriculum relevant information, complete with ideas for projects and class discussions.

The project was made possible through financial contributions from the Canadian Culture Online Program of Canadian Heritage, Library and Archives Canada and the Canadian Council of Archives, as well as the Grey County Historical Society, Dromore W.I., Gleneden W.I., Woodland Springs W.I., Osprey W.I., Ayton W.I., Zion Friendship Group, Ruth Thomas and Viola Bothwell.

The museum also thanks its many community supporters including the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, the Grey Highlands Public Library, the Grey Unit of the Retired Teachers of Ontario, and the Owen Sound branch of the Retired Women's Teachers' Organization.
